Shizuoka Prefecture is located more or less in the center of Japan, and as a result it boasts easy access to metropolitan areas such as Tokyo and Osaka. Shizuoka is blessed with a temperate climate and rich natural surroundings, and flourished as a location along the Tokaido road, the main route between Tokyo and Kyoto during the Edo Period (17th to 19th centuries). This is why Shizuoka still has many historic sites, traditional festivals, and breathtaking scenic views.
