On January 14, 2025, Pilar Garcés, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at the University of Valladolid, Spain, accompanied by Professor Filologia Francesa, paid a courtesy visit to President Yasuyuki Imai. Since signing an inter-university agreement in 2017, the partnership between the two universities has flourished, fostering strong academic and cultural ties.
During the visit, Vice Dean Garcés reflected on the longstanding student exchange program, stating, “While the program has been running for years, it still feels as fresh as if it began only yesterday.” She expressed her gratitude for the collaboration, shared hopes for an even closer partnership, and acknowledged the challenges students face in learning kanji and mastering the Japanese language.
In 2023, the University of Valladolid introduced Japanese as a compulsory elective for its third- and fourth-year students, further demonstrating its commitment to cross-cultural education. The university is currently in the process of selecting students to send to our university next year. Meanwhile, three of our students have been selected as exchange participants to study at Valladolid this academic year. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss ways to further expand these programs.
Both universities look forward to continuing this fruitful collaboration through expanded student exchanges and special lectures, paving the way for even greater academic and cultural exchange.
