On March 14, five Japanese students and three international students who spent the past year at Fugaku Dormitory gathered for the 2024 Year-in-Review session. The event provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their experiences, exchange insights, and highlight the impact of cultural interactions in their daily lives.
Established in April 2022 as part of the university’s globalization initiative, Fugaku Dormitory has welcomed students from diverse backgrounds, including Japan, Russia, Germany, Turkey, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Algeria, India, China, Korea, the United States, and Thailand. Living together under one roof, residents have built meaningful friendships across borders, fostering intercultural understanding and breaking down linguistic and cultural barriers.
University faculty members, including the Director of the International Affairs Center, attended the Year-in-Review session to hear students share their personal experiences. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from dormitory events and daily interactions to the challenges and rewards of cultural exchange and personal development over the past year.
One student expressed, “Living in the dormitory gave me confidence and made me aware of areas where I could improve. This year was truly an invaluable experience.” Another student added, “The year flew by so quickly. My time in the dormitory provided far more than I expected, giving me endless opportunities to interact with international students. It wasn’t just about learning new cultures—it was about growing together.”
Fugaku Dormitory is more than just a place to stay—it is a vibrant hub of cultural exchange, personal growth, and lifelong connections. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds, it fosters a deeper global awareness and prepares them to thrive in an interconnected world. As the dormitory continues its mission, it remains committed to providing an inclusive and enriching environment where students can learn, engage, and grow together.
