On September 29, six exchange students from partner universities with which University of Shizuoka has academic exchange agreements, and two short-term students from Zhejiang Province, China—participating in the Shizuoka Prefecture Short-Term Student Exchange Program—paid a courtesy visit to President Yasuyuki Imai.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Imai encouraged the students by saying, “In addition to your classes and research, I hope you will take the opportunity to observe and experience Japanese society.” He also introduced Ryūsei fireworks held recently at Kusanagi Shrine as an example of traditional Japanese culture.
The exchange students then introduced themselves in Japanese. A student from the University of Valladolid in Spain expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Through the encounters I have in Japan, I want to learn the language and experience the culture.”
Following the introductions, participating faculty members and students enjoyed a lively conversation, discussing topics such as their favorite Japanese anime and differences between Japan and their home countries.
Before the courtesy visit, the international students took part in a tea ceremony experience, and afterward, they joined a social gathering with their Conversation Partners, further deepening their friendships.
The exchange students are scheduled to attend classes at the University for a period of up to 12 months.
