Courtesy Visit by Faculty Members of the University of the Philippines and a Commissioner of the Philippine Government’s Commission on Filipinos Overseas
On November 14, Professorial Lecturer Maria Rosario “Cherry” Piquero-Ballescas of the University of the Philippines, who also serves as a Visiting Researcher at our Global Studies Research Center, and accompanying delegates paid a courtesy visit to President Yasuyuki Imai. Since concluding an inter-university agreement in 1996, our university and the University of the Philippines have continued to strengthen their academic exchange.
The meeting began with welcoming remarks from President Imai, followed by an overview of our university.
Ms. Kristine Joy D. Gacer, Senior Immigrant Service Officer of the Philippine Government, provided an explanation of government initiatives to support Filipinos living abroad, including building networks within the Filipino community in Japan and promoting legal and cultural understanding.
Professorial Lecturer Piquero-Ballescas highlighted that our university has many faculty members engaged in Philippine studies and referred to the strong record of mutual exchange of students over the years. She expressed her deep trust in and high expectations for our university.
Moving forward, our university and the University of the Philippines will continue to enhance cooperation through faculty exchanges and student mobility programs.
