Our university achieved a remarkable feat at the 5th Filipino Speech Contest in Hamamatsu, held on February 8th. Aya Oishi (School of International Relations) took first place, while Chihiro Ogi (School of International Relations) and Yuna Ikeda (Graduate School of International Relations) tied for second place. Our students swept all top honors.

Hosted by the NPO Filipino Nagkaisa in Hamamatsu since 2022, this contest draws applicants from all over Japan. Although our university has participated in the past, this marks the first time we have produced the champion and top winners. All three students studied Filipino at our university, and Ogi and Ikeda were dispatched to the University of the Philippines as exchange students last year, where they honed their skills for this success.

Oishi delivered a speech on Filipino family love, Ogi on the nuances of daily life during her study abroad, and Ikeda on friendship and exchange between Japan and the Philippines. The judges praised the contestants, saying, "Everyone spoke fluent, clear, and easy-to-understand Filipino, and the content was profound." They were also astonished to learn that all three top winners came from the same university.
